Ben Hamlett started working with electronics when he was in Junior High, working at a Idaho Instrument, repairing multi-meters, setting up Techno mills,  and making electronic trainers. Ben went on to get both his Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho and is a Professional Engineer in Idaho.  Ben has worked in education for more than 20 years.  For his day job, Ben is Professor and Program Manager of the Automation Engineering Technology program at the College of Southern Idaho, teaching automation, controls, and electronics. Ben teaches students of all ages about, robotics, PLCs, HMIs, CAD, instrumentation (level sensors, flow meters, light curtains, conductivity meters, etc.), different programming languages, industrial safety topics, etc.

Ben started Desert Manufacturing because he wanted to continue making educational materials and trainers so that others could inspire and train students in electronics and automation.  Being a native Idahoan, Ben has worked with farmers and ranchers his whole life.  At Idaho Instrument he repaired equipment and made instrumentation to improve yields.  Similarly, Desert Manufacturing will continue to help the agriculture industry.

Even though both school and the business, keeps him quite busy, in his free time, Ben enjoys riding his Harley and playing with electronics. For all those HAMs out there his call sign is N7BEN.
